Educational opportunities abound in Albuquerque. From pre-school and kindergarten to university graduate and medical school programs Albuquerque educational institutions meet the needs of a wide and varied population.
The Albuquerque Public Schools with 120 schools serving over 90,000 students through traditional, charter, and alternative school programs. Albuquerque Schools offer a wide variety of course material including college preparatory, vocational, commercial, honors, fine arts, music, Advanced Placement, special needs programs, and a wide variety of extra curricular and athletic programs. Private and parochial schools also are available offering similar programs for pre-school through high school. Rio Rancho, Albuquerque's only suburb has its own school system with 16 schools serving over 14,000 students. Rio Rancho is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation, and will be adding several new schools including a new high schol in the very near future. The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque serving over 26,000 students with a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The university also has widely respected medical and law schools. The Central New Mexico Community College, previously known as The Albquerque Technical Vocational Institute (TVI), continues to offer a wide variety of commercial, vocational, and job training programs. In addition CNMCC now serves as an academic community college with certificate programs and transferable credits to all institutions of higher learning. Educational opportunities in Albuquerque abound for children, young adults, adults, and seniors. Schools are available, accessable, and provide excellent services for the community.
